This gigantic navigational and power project ranks with the world's greatest and as a source for future productivity holds vast and uncalculated potential; it will open a new highway of commerce from the Atlantic ocean into the heartland of North America. For Canada, 1957 ranked as a year of achievement in many fields ranging from the arts to atomic energy, but everywhere pride was tempered with the knowledge that the steps taken were just a beginning, much remained to be done; the new year held great promise and stern challenges which would test the ability, the courage and the imagination of all. Canada's National Ballet (above) received a grant from the fledgling Canada Arts Council which will enable this group to enlarge the scope of their productions, take them on extended tours of the country.
