Caption
Canada's National Parks offer some of the best mountaineering country in the world regardless of whether the hiker is seeking a magnificent view or the most demanding of challenges. Park Wardens, who go to the rescue of the unsuccessful, must be thoroughly trained, as surefooted as goats, for when lives hang in the balance, there can be no margin for error.

A column of Wardens and RCMP strike out for Mt. Victoria Glacier in the Lake Louise area of Banff National Park on the first leg of a rugged, two weeks' course in the Mountain Search and Rescue School. This feature was instituted three years ago to make Canada's National Parks safer for mountain climbers and ski enthusiasts and to provide for quicker and more efficient rescue of those who become lost or trapped.
