Every year scores of lost children from coast to coast are miraculously returned to their families through the skill and daring of the nimblest, most intrepid cops in the world: the RCMP'S famous Police Service Dogs. The dogs, sleek German Shepherds, are stationed in 17 centres across Canada and are driven or flown wherever need arises. Fearless in pursuit of dangerous criminals, the dogs will drag a lost child to safety with surprising gentleness. Dogs will attack only on command and are trained to seize gunmen by the "gun arm". They will stand guard over an escaped criminal or object indefinitely until police reinforcements arrive to take over.

Dogs combine high intelligence with rugged strength, great courage; are called out on approximately 1,000 assignments annually. Tracking down criminals accounts for about 26% of their work and searching for lost persons another 20%.
