Gerald T. Feathers, 34-year old Blood Indian from southern Alberta, is acquiring national and international recognition as a painter of the Indian scene. Above, he makes one of his quick outdoor sketches on the beautifully situated Indian Reserve near Cardston in the foothills of the Rockies. 2800 Blood Indians live on the rich farm and pasture land of the 350,000 acre reservation -- the largest in Canada.

Feathers' interest in art developed early in life and as a promising teenager he was given free lessons at Glacier Park, Montana, by the American artist Winold Reiss. Later he was awarded scholarships to the Banff School of Fine Arts and the Provincial School of Technology and Art in Calgary, Alta. In 1949 he married Irene Goodstriker, also from the Blood Reserve. They have two children.
