Look out -- he's comin' down the mountain! One of the 900 members of the Alpine Club of Canada shows off his high-speed rappelling technique at the annual summer climbing camp near Jasper, Alberta. Here, climbers learn to use their ropes, eyes, brains -- and muscles -- while enjoying one of the most satisfying sports in the world. There is much to learn and often gruelling hikes, but there is also sizzling trout at high breakfasts, songs round the fire in the valleys, the testing of self and soul on the peaks. Small wonder the membership grows each year. "Conquer a mountain; conquer thyself", so the saying goes. So each dawn the climbers go, into the high places, amid the grandeurs of Canada's Rockies.
