Main Text
More than a million back-to-nature Canadians are taking camping vacations this summer. Some will explore hinterland areas, portage their canoes, camp where silent trees grow tall. Most will travel family style, stopping at established campsites in every province, visiting Canada's national and provincial parks. Canada's parkland -- 89,000 square miles and equal in size to Great Britain -- is set aside for its scenic beauty, natural grandeur. In the family car, campers can travel highways, adventure along twisting woodland trails, come to rest in cool clearings amid scented pine and whispering birch. On lake shores, by stream banks, in inland forests and by the sea, holidaying campers pitch tents, cook outdoor meals, relax in the fresh air and solitude that beckoned their forefathers a century ago.
