In the quiet of House of Commons Memorial Chapel located in the lower portion of the Peace Tower, daily ritual of turning over a page of the Book of Remembrance is carried out. On the Chapel walls, stone plaques carry details of the service, sacrifice and achievements of Canadians killed in the First Great War. The six-hundred-and-one page Book of Remembrance lies within a flag-lined casket, is richly illuminated with the names of over 65,000 Canadian servicemen who died in 1914-18 conflict.

This week, in moving ceremonies at home and abroad, the historic battles of Amiens, Ypres, Ortona and Sicily will again be remembered as Canadians pay their annual November 11th tribute to over 100,000 fellow-country-men who fell in two world wars. Beautifully-landscaped Canadian cemetery of Beny-sur-Mer, overlooking the landing beaches near Reviers, France, is monument to some 2,000 Canadians who died during Normandy invasion. Commonwealth war cemeteries are administered by the Imperial War Graves Commission.
