Main Text
Impressive in its simplicity, the Canadian memorial at Vimy Ridge, overlooking the French towns of Lens and Lille, commemorates 1917 battle for Hill 70. Names of 11,500 Canadian servicemen missing in France are inscribed in memorial's base. Twin pylons of monument overshadow lonely brooding figure representing Canada.
