With the world passing the midway mark of the sixties, Canada's economy is booming, the nation's affairs expanding. In 1964 indicators show the gross national product rose nine per cent, exports increased 20 per cent, imports went up 16 per cent and internal trade reached a new high. Across the land new resources were marked for future wealth, including a rich iron deposit 400 miles inside the arctic circle on Baffin Island, a massive base-metal find near Timmins, Ontario, off-shore oil fields in British Columbia and Hudson Bay. For Canadians, it was also a year of overseas discovery --a mountaineering team in the Himalayas, a medical expedition on Easter Island, a survey ship to the Caribbean and several other scientific groups around the globe. Queen Elizabeth II visited Canada, Shakespearian actors went to England and the Beatles returned the compliment. Two oarsmen rowed their way to an Olympic gold medal, a penguin did the same in Italy and Canadian science made ready more space probes.
