Main Text
Capital of rich Ontario and one of the wealthiest centers of industry and commerce in the whole of North America, the pulsating city of Toronto is the economic giant of modern Canada. Its metropolitan area covers 250 square miles, contains a cosmopolitan population of 2,250,000, is served by Canada's busiest international airport, receives deep-sea shipping from the furthest corners of the world at its bustling lakeside harbor, has the western hemisphere's second largest stock exchange and is the focus point for a massive network of highways, railways, power developments and communication systems. To this city in recent years has swarmed a lusty mixture of peoples from many countries. Their influence, combined with the energetic outlook of Ontario businessmen, financiers, mining promoters and many others who make up the complex industrial scene, has helped create a fascinating kaleidoscope of cultural and economic activities. Continuing its growth at an astonishing rate, big-time Toronto is expected to evolve into one of the continent's greatest megalopoles of the exciting era to come.
