Because precious metals are handled in large quantities, elaborate precautions must be taken to prevent losses. Each day's work is accurately weighed while main gate (above) and grounds are guarded by members of RCMP. Mint building of Tudor design was completed in 1908; marked beginning of Canadian manufactured coinage.
