From youngest to oldest, nearly everyone in Calgary cooperates to make Stampede a prairie Mardi Gras. Merchants put up signs reading "Welcome Pardner." Restaurants put kerchiefs on waiters, hire fiddlers to play cowboy tunes. At one hotel the specialty of The Week is buffalo stew.
