Ideas and inspiration for the mural came from the drawings of the artist's young children: Helen, 11, Caroline 8, Rene, 7, and Nina 3, shown above with their attractive mother, Delilah. The right side of the mural was designed to point up the 3-fold function of education to train the hand, the heart and the head while the left side symbolizes nature in the water (fish) on the land (leaf) and in the air (butterfly).

Caption
Blackburn Public School outside Ottawa, Ontario, boasts one of the first 3-dimensional murals to grace a public building in Canada. Designed and executed by the well-known Canadian artist Arthur Price of Cyrville, Ontario, the mural is a happy combination of Canadian copper, aluminium and manganese bronze, mounted on an 8-foot slab of purple slate.
