The forthcoming general election has not caught Canada's chief electoral officer napping. For months his staff has been on the alert maintaining a state of preparedness worthy of the most zealous boy scout. Now that the signal has been given, everyone goes to action stations with the calm efficiency born of careful training. Forms at the ready, a hastily recruited army of canvassers will ring doorbells from coast to coast to see that everyone who has the right gets his name on the voter's list--which this year will top the 9 million mark.

In past elections, from 66 to 76 percent of the electorate have turned out to vote. Generally, the hotter the election issues, the keener election interest; nevertheless, Canada's national average compares favourably with other countries using a similar electoral system.
