The search for oil goes on by helicopter, horseback, canoe, and on foot. Exploration and development in Alberta alone cost $340,000,000 in 1955 but we now rank seventh as world crude oil producer although only accounting for 2.3% of world production.

In Canada's West, oil and wheat now go together like bread and butter. The boom in oil is bringing Canada into the picture as a major producer of petroleum. This development of a two-crop economy has added jam to the bread and butter of many an individual. It has also improved the country's balance of payments through reducing the need for imported oil supplies and by stimulating investment in Canada.

Oil consumption has tripled since 1946 when the domestic supply was only about a million barrels. The 1955 output of over 128 million barrels now meets the needs of all of Western Canada and part of Ontario and production has increased by almost 40% in the first half of 1956.
